Strata Fundamentals: Reviews from REALTORS®

As stratas increase in popularity as a means of affordable living, expectations on REALTORS® have increased about how understanding and accurately conveying information about the property for sale. Although a strata unit sale has more complexities than the sale of a single-family home, one in five of the first transactions that a new Realtor will have to carry out will involve a strata corporation.

To prepare for these strata transactions, Realtors can look to BCREA's well-received Strata Fundamentals course. In a recent survey, learners provided positive feedback, noting that the instructions, engagement, interaction and learning support were excellent, that information was well-organized and videos were helpful.

Strata transactions can sometimes place Realtors in risky positions, but one course participant wrote '[there is an] excellent, proactive approach of arming participants with checklists for risk management." Another learner wrote, "[due to] the ever changing landscape of strata properties and the addition of depreciation reports here in BC, I feel that this course should become mandatory for all Realtors in the current market. The complexity of strata law and dealing in the best interest of one's clients requires a high level of expertise. Avoiding problems in strata sales transactions is paramount. Education is the key."
