Spring is often a busy time for buying and selling homes, packing, cleaning, moving, and unpacking. Moving takes time and can get expensive, i.e. taking garbage to the dump, moving costs, buying new furniture, etc. However, there is an easy way to make money and save energy when moving to your new home.

It’s simple. If you have an operating second fridge in your home, that you don’t use or need, call BC Hydro. They will remove your fridge from your home, pay you $30, and then recycle the fridge for you using environmentally sound methods.

Not only do you make money with this transaction, but you also will save on your energy bills while living in your new home by not powering a second fridge unnecessarily. Refrigerators are one of the highest energy users in your home. As a result, a second fridge can cost you up to $85 a year to operate. Over ten years, that’s $850, or an all-inclusive trip to Mexico!

Having that second fridge removed will help make your home look less cluttered when you are showcasing it to sell. It will also save you the hassle of lugging the old fridge to your new home.

Did you know that since 2002 BC Hydro has collected over 200,000 inefficient refrigerators from homes across BC? However, they estimate that there are still over 300,000 old secondary fridges that could be collected and recycled.
