Instantly Save on Energy Costs in Your New Home with ENERGY STAR® Labelled WindowsBy Kari Kylo, BC Hydro Power Smart You’ve moved into your new dream home. It is located in the perfect neighbourhood, it’s the right size, and it has all the character you would want in an older home. However, your energy bills are considerably higher than you anticipated, and the thought of having to do significant home repairs is daunting. Sound familiar? An easy solution is available, and it can cut your energy costs by up to 20 per cent a year. It is as simple as replacing your old windows with new ENERGY STAR® labelled windows. Heating one’s home can account for up to half of a home’s energy bill, and if heat is escaping through your windows, this is a waste and can easily be avoided. In order to recoup some of the cost associated with purchasing new energy efficient windows, homeowners can apply for rebates up to $70 per window through the LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive Program. There are also additional manufacturer and retailer incentives on a variety of ENERGY STAR® labelled windows throughout the year. Click here to see the various money-saving window offers. The other significant benefits of replacing your old windows with ENERGY STAR® windows is south facing rooms are kept cooler in the warmer months, and drafts in the cooler months are eliminated. They also reduce condensation and outside noise. With ENERGY STAR® labelled windows, homeowners can save money, reducing the impact on the environment, and enjoy a more comfortable home. For more information on BC Hydro Power Smart residential programs such as the Fridge Buy-Back program, discounts on ENERGY STAR® light fixtures and CFLs, mail-in rebates, and Power Smart New Homes visit www.bchydro.com/powersmart. |
