CMHC EQuilibrium™ Housing Project Home Tour
Are you interested in participating in a sustainable housing demonstration to learn about the costs, benefits and how to market cutting-edge sustainable homes? In collaboration with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), BCREA hosted a tour for REALTORS® of CHMC’s EQuilibrium™ Housing competition winner, Harmony House, on January 26. This free demonstration was an opportunity for REALTORS® to have a tour of the Burnaby home and learn about EnerGuide labeling, what makes sustainable homes stand apart from regular construction and learn how to market similar “green” homes. With the success of the first tour, and depending on levels of interest, BCREA and CMHC have decided to potentially facilitate a second tour for REALTORS® in late March. Harmony House features passive solar design, solar hot-water heating systems, seasonal heat storage, a cooling tower, efficient electrical appliances and lighting, and the use of smart metering and controls designed to minimize electrical energy consumption. The home tour will be funded by and include speakers from CMHC. The EQuilibrium™ Housing project is a national sustainable housing demonstration initiative, created and led by CMHC. The project brings the private and public sectors together to develop homes and communities that address occupant health and comfort, energy efficiency, renewable energy production, resource conservation, reduced environmental impact and affordability. Similar home tours have been conducted in CMHC’s EQuilibrium™ homes across the county. BCREA would like to thank CMHC for the opportunity to host these events which it believes are of great value to BC REALTORS® as sustainability becomes an increased priority to British Columbians.
