BCREA's Housing Affordability Campaign
The 2017 provincial election officially began on April 11, 2017. Within the first few days of the campaign, housing affordability had already dominated media and public conversations about what matters most in this election.
BCREA has created a new website to draw attention to our housing affordability solutions. BCREA's recommendations to the provincial government fall under five pillars:
- ensure the Property Transfer Tax accurately reflects the real estate market,
- provide assistance for homebuyers, homeowners and renters,
- encourage the creation of more rental housing,
- encourage urban density, and
- promote local government best practices.
During the campaign period, BCREA is engaging through social media and news outlets to promote these recommendations and encourage dialogue about housing affordability among political parties, candidates and voters.
The Association's also promoting local all-candidates' meetings hosted and sponsored by real estate boards across the province. Check out the list of events here.
Overall, BCREA wants to ensure that renters, first-time and move-up buyers have appropriate, affordable housing options available to them. Our five pillars of recommendations will aid in this goal, and we hope that whomever takes office on May 9 will consider these recommendations.
